Lunch Room356 viewsCathy: "You guys had a dedicated lunch room?" Tim: "Where else would you eat?" Cathy: "Our school ate in the commons area..." Tim: "Uhm, have you seen a 'commons area' in this school??" <g>

Shop Room356 viewsAs noted above, 'shop' was no longer offered at M-T in recent years, so the portions of the room which didn't become the distance learning center kind of reverted to a messy storeroom. When the building was first built in the 1930's, this area, along with the band room coming up, was the school gym and auditorium -- you can still see the Proscenium arch in the upper right of this picture.

View down the hall355 viewsWhen we attended here, it just seemed like an old school. Coming back, it seems kind of cool. They've obviously updated it -- new ceilings, doors, etc. But that cool checkerboard floor goes back to when the building was built in the 1930's. Incidentally the old doors that were there when Tim was in school used these huge skeleton keys that each teacher had to carry around...

More plumbing353 viewsVery similar to the other picture above, but for the Girl's bathroom. Notable how 'sexist' the thinking was when this was built in the 1930's: The guy's version of this was accessed from the boy's bathroom. The girl's version was accessed through the adjoining classroom. The thinking, I'm sure, was that the janitor would be male and couldn't go into the girl's bathroom easilly to work on stuff... Rumor had it that you could sneak in here and peep into the Girl's bathroom, Porky's-style...

Shop Room tool area351 viewsSince the high school left 20 years ago, the shop room was largely converted into a high-tech distance learning facility (which for some reason I didn't take a picture of). But parts of the 'old' shop room still exist, like this tool storage area, which, although much messier than our old shop instructor Mr. Wiebenga would have kept it, is about the same as I remember it.

It's been a great ride349 viewsThe sign reads "End of an ere, beginning of a dream... It's been a great ride"

This was the sign displayed as the school closed for good.

Collapse from Stone Arch Bridge348 viewsAgain, best seen if enlarged. At the time these pictures were taken, there were still a number of bodies unrecovered and the recovery effort was in full swing.
