Upper and Lower Rails629 viewsThis picture shows the upper and lower rails in place. Cathy is countersinking some nails which hold the lower rail in place (the nails were toenailed with a pneumatic finish nailer).

Back View627 viewsThe back of the house, as it appeared in 2002. On the left is a portion of the large main garden (left unplanted that year). We've since filled it with vegetables and flowers. Under the canopy to the left is our hot tub, which came with the house. Soaking in the spa after a hard day's work is great! The box in the foreground is a compost bin which we repaired after this picture was taken. Finally, in 2005, we replaced the deck with a new larger one with yard access.

Done for Wednesday626 viewsHere's the status of things at the end of our workday Wednesday: The upper decking is in, and the railings are all complete except for the barrier boards. The 4x4 timber is in place in the foreground of the picture-- it will be used to support the swing beam on the fort side. Things are coming along pretty smoothly.

There's a Hole in my House620 viewsOld door is gone (obviously), working on getting the under-threshold area level for the new door.

Checking things out615 viewsWilliam sits at the top of the newly-placed ladder. As we were lifting the ladder into position, and before we attached it, William wasted no time in scampering halfway up the ladder as we held it before we could stop him and get him to wait!

Outside view.615 viewsHere's an outside view with all doors closed. the 'walk-in' door is a double 'Dutch' door. The 'garage' door was made out of corrugated plastic ('coro') -- more details on that in the coming pictures.

Two more frames605 viewsWe set the frames outside after each was built to free up room in the garage. The Timber Bilt kits actually go up pretty easy. They have a unique bracket system for piecing together the larger timbers, and most of the rest of the assembly is done with some special lag screws and coated deck screws.

Pouring footings602 viewsOnce the footing holes passed inspection, it was time for concrete.
