Upper and Lower Rails515 viewsThis picture shows the upper and lower rails in place. Cathy is countersinking some nails which hold the lower rail in place (the nails were toenailed with a pneumatic finish nailer).

Family Room511 viewsHere's a view of our family room, which features a second fireplace and wet bar, as well as cedar walls. We purchased a leather sectional and matching coffee table for this room, and also new carpet. This is a great place to sit by the fire and watch a movie. This is how it looked before we got our current TV. These days, we have a LCD flat panel where the picture is over the fireplace.

Front View509 viewsHere is the front of our home as it looked when we bought it. We've made quite a few changes: replacing the front entry and storm doors (the old one was Barbie Pink -- no kidding! If you click on the image to view the large one and zoom in, you can kind of tell), trimming back the overgrown foliage, removing the awnings, and adding green decorative shutters on all four windows. We also replaced the driveway, and widened it to the width of the rock in the picture above.

The Old Deck508 viewsThe last picture we took of the old deck before it was demolished. The rose bushes, which had just flowered, were cut back and later moved to the side of the house, where they are doing well.

Small side rail completed508 viewsThe completed small railing, sans finishing. To get to this point, we cut each baluster to the proper length, glued it into position, and tacked it into place with a pneumatic brad nailer. Then, small "fillet" strips are cut to length and fit in the upper and lower rails, giving it a finished look. Rail spacing is carefully governed by code: a 4" sphere must not pass between any point on the finished railing. This required a bit of math and careful calculations, since the spindles are tapered.

Previous Owner's Bedroom503 viewsThis picture shows the master bedroom as the previous owner had it. This bedroom is one of four in the home. We made major changes to the look in here as well-- new draperies, paint scheme, and new carpet. We'll get a picture of it here sometime soon.

Starting out495 viewsWe started on a rainy Tuesday, fortunately mostly working in the garage. The plans gave a detailed "cut list" and we cut out and labeled all the pieces, as well as rounded over the edges with a router for safety. In this picture, you can see one of the framing pieces after assembly, some of the smaller cut-outs, and the slide. The huge box is the "Turbo Slide", which you'll see coming up.

Pond Fountain493 viewsHere's a picture of the pond, showing the fountain we added in April 2003. In the background is the back of our house, and also Bailey. The waterfowl actually seem to kind of enjoy the fountain. We changed the nozzle of the fountain in 2004 which gives it a better pattern, and helps keep it from clogging.

Outside view.490 viewsHere's an outside view with all doors closed. the 'walk-in' door is a double 'Dutch' door. The 'garage' door was made out of corrugated plastic ('coro') -- more details on that in the coming pictures.
