Family Room468 viewsAnother view of our family room. The wet bar is in the back corner. The cedar walls also extend to the lower hallway and bathroom, giving this area a distinct and casual feel as compared to the upstairs.

460 viewsAnother view of the pond, with the fountain and part of our back yard.

William checks out the situation454 viewsIn the foreground, William poses with great anticipation of his new playground. In the background, you can see the status at this point-- most of the lower deck is now complete, except for the "barrier boards" which make up the railings.

More finish work434 viewsCathy works on the grade at the bottom of the Turbo Slide. One of the remaining tasks is to bring in a lot of mulch for safety to go under most of the area, and then reseed the rest of the area which was disturbed in all of the leveling efforts.

Back Yard429 viewsA view of part of our back yard, with Cathy and Bailey still playing. By late fall when this picture was taken, our pond (in the background) had obtained a bright green coating. Starting in 2003 we retained a pond service to help with this condition and keep the pond in better shape.

Ledger Board423 viewsThe new ledger board was then placed, so it could be used as a reference for the new footings.

View from "the penthouse"410 viewsHere's the bird's eye view from the top deck. To the left of the camera is the entrance for the turbo slide, and behind the camera is the rock wall.

Living Room at Christmas409 viewsHere is a similar picture of the living room. You can see our wood floors here. The Christmas tree was a gift from our realtor for doing business with them. The almond-colored railing in the foreground, and in the picture above, has been replaced with an oak railing.

Adding the lower deck406 viewsAt this point, the three major frames were all installed, and Tim works on adding the decking for the lower deck. The special green brackets are in use here -- on the right side just under the lower deck you can see two in use (the others are still waiting to be used).

Upper rail complete406 viewsThe next step was to remove the other wrought-iron railing. This railing was one large piece, making up the straight upper section, and the angled section down the stairs (see the "before" pictures above). We also removed the trim board underneath the railing, so it could be replaced with a new oak board finished to match the new railing. We used the same procedure as above to install the small upper railing at the top of the stairs.

Angled Ballusters397 viewsHere Tim installs some of the balusters on the angled railing. Each baluster needed to be carefully miter-cut to the proper angle. As with the railings above, careful math and codes dictated the spacing between baluster spindles.
