Oak Railings1782 viewsHere is a view of our new oak railing that we finished installing in March 2004. We have many more pictures of this project in the 'projects' section of this website.

Framing Finished1737 viewsWe didn't pause to take any other photos-- this one shows where we stopped for the day when rain started falling. The front of the building will have a roll-up door and a window (being demonstrated by Cathy). We made good progress before the rain-- getting all the walls framed and trusses up and temporarily braced.

John Deere World Headquarters1664 viewsOur final stop in Moline was at the John Deere World Headquarters. There is a large exhibition area at the headquarters, which, like the Pavilion, has a mix of old and new Deere equipment. It was a lot of fun to look at.

Minuteman Missile1593 viewsI didn't take a lot of pictures here, unfortunately. I'm not sure why, it was really interesting. This picture shows grandma walking into the underground control bunker. That huge door with the "domino's" logo on it was the blast door to protect them in case "the button" was pressed from the other side.

Building Materials1562 viewsHowever, the following weekend was our "framing blitz". We prepared for it Thursday by picking up a ton of building materials at Menards. Here is a photo of many of the building supplies sitting in our garage Thursday night. Sorry for the poor quality -- the digital camera we had at this time took lousy flash photos.

Go Karts1549 viewsPigeon Forge and Gatlinburg is a huge tourist trap, with something like a million different go-cart tracks. Here Tim tries out one of them.

World's Largest Crayon1508 viewsThis is evidently the World's Largest Crayon. And unlike other "world's largest" things (the Louisville Slugger's Bat comes to mind) that aren't a real product but just look like one, this one's really a wax crayon. Evidently they had kids send in their stubby blue crayons and then melted them in to this bohemouth.

Rotten rim joist1481 viewsUpon removing the old ledger board, we found a terrible site -- water had seeped down beneath our patio door, for who knows how many years, and completely rotted out a large chunk of the rim joist supporting the back of the house, as well as the deck.
