The original plan was to have the Washington Monument be right at the intersection of a line from the White House and a line from the Capitol. As you can see, though, they had to change the location slightly.

Falls of the Ohio248 viewsWe also stopped by the Falls of the Ohio, which is supposed to be a large, exposed fossil area, but we didn't get to see this because it was all underwater! Turns out the area had been flooding all summer (quite unlike Minnesota which was bone dry during the same period). We still got to walk along the overflowing river, and take some great pictures of the falls and surrounding area.
