Lincoln Memorial411 viewsThe Lincoln Memorial is a must-see to honor the man who kept our country together through the trying times of the Civil War. Here, the two of us pose outside of the huge marble structure.

Korean War Memorial409 viewsThe Korean War Memorial is quite unique in that it contains many statues of soldiers in action. We visited this memorial at dusk, which contributed to the surreal nature of the experience.

Challenger Memorial408 viewsThere was a memorial for the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster that happened on January 28, 1986. Most of us still remember what we were doing at the time we first heard that news...

US Navy Memorial404 viewsWhile visiting the US Navy Memorial, we were pleasantly surprised to find the Navy Band setting up for a free concert later that evening. We stayed for the concert, which was a great experience. This picture shows the "Lone Sailor" which is a main feature of this memorial plaza.

Library of Congress402 viewsHere Cathy poses in the atrium of the extremely elaborate Jefferson building at the Library of Congress. This area is literally a shrine to knowledge, with symbols of knowledge throughout.

WWII Memorial402 viewsWe took a lot of pictures here since this memorial was brand new -- it was dedicated only 2 months before our vacation. We both felt this memorial was very well done, and a beautiful place to honor the many who served in this conflict. The memorial incorporates a lot of water and fountains, adding significantly to the beauty.

Udvar-Hazy Center: National Air and Space Museum397 viewsOne of the hilights of our trip was visiting the National Air and Space Museum's new Udvar-Hazy center. This museum just opened in December 2003, and is located near Dulles Airport. We weren't sure we'd have time to get there, but we were sure glad we did.

The National Mall397 viewsLike all "touristy" folks in DC we went up the Washington Monument. For whatever reason, they had half of the windows blocked off, and all the windows are very small (about 1' x 2'). But we took some pictures. Here's the National Mall.

US Botanical Center Conservatory396 viewsThis picture is actually not from the zoo, but at the US Botanical Center Conservatory near the Capitol building. But, it seemed to fit in well with all the animal pictures. We only had about 45 minutes at the center, but it was a beautiful place and featured many lovely plants.

DC from Old Post Office Pavilion377 viewsWhat's actually a much better view than the Washington Monument is the Old Post Office Pavilion. It has much larger "windows" (actually there open screens), it isn't nearly as crowded, and the views are just as nice. This picture shows Pennsylvania Avenue looking toward the Capitol.

WWII Memorial at Night372 viewsHere is a nightime picture of the WWII Memorial. The memorial is equally beautiful day and night.
