Cathy and William by a Stream540 viewsOne of the first things we did in the park was drive a loop with some old farmsteads that are now on park property. Many of the farmsteads had hiking trails, and this particular one had a pretty stream with an old sawmill where we posed for a picture.

Falls of the Ohio539 viewsWe also stopped by the Falls of the Ohio, which is supposed to be a large, exposed fossil area, but we didn't get to see this because it was all underwater! Turns out the area had been flooding all summer (quite unlike Minnesota which was bone dry during the same period). We still got to walk along the overflowing river, and take some great pictures of the falls and surrounding area.

Museum of Westward Expansion538 viewsUnderneath the arch, under the grass, is a large museum called the Museum of Westward Expansion. It chronicled the reason for the arch's existence -- the commemoration of the Lewis and Clark expedition and the settling of the West, in which St. Louis played a key role. There was also a small model of the arch, which a friendly employee offered to snap our picture near.
