The Engine649 viewsHere's the engine itself. At Keystone, our "turn around" point, they stopped the train, disconnected the engine, and moved it to what was formerly the rear of the train. So on the way back to Hill City, the engine was facing the "right" direction. This was different than the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge which we took a few years earlier in Durango, Colorado, where they turned the entire train around on a wye.

We both felt this memorial was very well done, and a beautiful place to honor the many who served in this conflict. The memorial incorporates a lot of water and fountains, adding significantly to the beauty.
