Cathy Looks Outside538 viewsCathy peers through the tiny, yet amazing, windows at the top of the Gateway Arch

Penguin and Puffin Coast531 viewsAnother unique exhibit was the Penguin and Puffin Coast, which was brand new for the season we were there. The penguins and puffins were so close to you you could have touched them (I might have tried if it wasn't for the zookeepers nearby).

Beer Control Central527 viewsControl Central at the Budweiser brewery: This is where the whole brewing process is monitored and controlled. The building which is the brew house is quite old, but obviously the equipment is quite modern.

Jewel Box524 viewsNear the zoo is a conservatory called the Jewel Box. It had recently been restored before we visited, so it looked great inside. The design of the building, which was built in the 1930's, was somewhat unique for a greenhouse in that all the glass panes are perpendicular to the ground. This was to help prevent hail damage.

Churchill Downs508 viewsOur first stop was the Kentucky Derby Museum and Churchill Downs. Neither of us had the slightest clue when it came to horse racing or the Kentucky Derby, but the museum explained it all and was quite interesting.

Cathy at Top of Gateway Arch506 viewsBeing the vain people we are, we had to snap some photos of each other while we were up on the top of the arch as well.

Butterfly outside Jewel Box506 viewsMore butterflies, this time outside of the Jewel Box!

Old Chain of Rocks Bridge504 viewsWe took the long way out of town to stop and see the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. This bridge was where Route 66 crossed the Mississippi River, and closed to traffic in 1967. Fortunately, it was recently reopened as a bike/walking trail.

Louisville Slugger Factory502 viewsOur next stop was the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum. Here is where they make the world-famous wooden bats. We went on the tour, and got to take home a 'mini-bat' as well. Outside the factory is a huge bat, which we posed with here.

The Winners Horseshoe?501 viewsThe winner's circle. Or wait, it's a horseshoe!

Union Station497 viewsA view of the Union Station, which used to be a grand train station, and now has been converted to a shopping mall and hotel. The building itself is very elegant, and it's always nice to see a piece of history preserved.

Museum of Westward Expansion488 viewsUnderneath the arch, under the grass, is a large museum called the Museum of Westward Expansion. It chronicled the reason for the arch's existence -- the commemoration of the Lewis and Clark expedition and the settling of the West, in which St. Louis played a key role. There was also a small model of the arch, which a friendly employee offered to snap our picture near.
