A Room with a View394 viewsOne of the many pictures we snapped from the top of the Gateway Arch.

Insectarium391 viewsOne of the attractions at the zoo is the Insectarium, a building housing many insects, from the creepy to the beautiful. There is also a large dome filled with butterflies, which definitely qualify for the "beautiful" status. We snapped a few pictures of some of them.

Are you looking at me?385 viewsAnother butterfuly from the Insectarium. The "eyes", of course, are just designs on the wings.

Bend in the Bridge384 viewsOne very unique thing about this bridge is that there is a bend (turn) in the middle of it. This was to help with boats navigating the river, but must have made driving tricky. The bridge itself wasn't much wider than a modern traffic lane, but held two lanes of opposing traffic.

I don't wanna grow up...381 viewsTim, who refuses to grow up, started making a sand castle on the shores of the Ohio. Cathy soon joined in.

Penguin and Puffin Coast379 viewsMore penguins. It was COLD in there-- the brochure said they keep it 40 degrees, which is quite a shock when it's 80 degrees or so outside. and you're wearing shorts and T-shirts! Note that this picture almost looks like a painting, but it is indeed real.

Arch and Old Courthouse375 viewsA picture of the arch, framing the dome of the old courthouse which stands nearby. This is such an obvious location to take a picture that it has to be one of the most photographed spots in St. Louis.

Big Bat375 viewsWe then stepped back across the street to try to get the entire bat in the picture. Not the easiest thing to do, as tall as that thing is.

The Winners Horseshoe?370 viewsThe winner's circle. Or wait, it's a horseshoe!

Posing near the Arch369 viewsHere's a similar shot to the above, with a slightly tighter composition.
StLouis26.JPG
Penguin and Puffin Coast368 viewsAnother unique exhibit was the Penguin and Puffin Coast, which was brand new for the season we were there. The penguins and puffins were so close to you you could have touched them (I might have tried if it wasn't for the zookeepers nearby).

Jewel Box367 viewsNear the zoo is a conservatory called the Jewel Box. It had recently been restored before we visited, so it looked great inside. The design of the building, which was built in the 1930's, was somewhat unique for a greenhouse in that all the glass panes are perpendicular to the ground. This was to help prevent hail damage.
