The "Pagoda"641 viewsThe bus tour took us around the racetrack itself, which was cool. The racetrack is called "The Brickyard" but I never knew why. Turns out the whole thing used to be paved with bricks. Most of them are still under the current asphalt surface. The picture to the left shows a new "pagoda" which was built for scorekeeping and the press. Evidently in years past (the track is almost 100 years old) there was an actual Japanese pagoda in the same location.

Failed Attempt636 viewsWe tried another "remote" picture similar to our one at the arch, with the two of us at Union Station, but it didn't turn out very well. Here it is for your enjoyment anyway.

Route 66 Memorbelia594 viewsPartway across the bridge was an information area, with some nostalgic signs, an old gas pump, and an old car. In this picture, Cathy poses near some of these.

The Rich get Richer...564 viewsChurchill Downs was being remodeled when we were there. Of course, they had to tear out a 100-year old clubhouse so they could build a more 'posh' one for rich corporate suites. At least the twin spires remain!
