Library of Congress405 viewsHere Cathy poses in the atrium of the extremely elaborate Jefferson building at the Library of Congress. This area is literally a shrine to knowledge, with symbols of knowledge throughout.

The National Mall399 viewsLike all "touristy" folks in DC we went up the Washington Monument. For whatever reason, they had half of the windows blocked off, and all the windows are very small (about 1' x 2'). But we took some pictures. Here's the National Mall.

DC from Old Post Office Pavilion379 viewsWhat's actually a much better view than the Washington Monument is the Old Post Office Pavilion. It has much larger "windows" (actually there open screens), it isn't nearly as crowded, and the views are just as nice. This picture shows Pennsylvania Avenue looking toward the Capitol.

DC from Old Post Office Pavilion347 viewsHere's a similar picture as the previous, but zoomed in to show the Capitol.

Arlington - Changing of the Guard340 viewsArlington National Cemetery isn't the largest national cemetery in the US, but it's the most famous. This picture shows the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Columbia Memorial328 viewsUnfortunately with another recent accident comes another Space Shuttle memorial. This one is for the Columbia accident on February 1, 2003. Columbia was the first shuttle to leave the earth's atmosphere in 1981 -- Tim remembers watching it land for the first time live on TV in elementary school...

White House from Washington Monument323 viewsLooking toward the White House from the Washington Monument. The original plan was to have the Washington Monument be right at the intersection of a line from the White House and a line from the Capitol. As you can see, though, they had to change the location slightly.
