The Bear Necessity317 viewsA large bear, which for some reason I felt the need to take a photo of.

Penguin & Puffin Coast257 viewsA very 'cool' exhibit, in all senses of the word.

Butterfly204 viewsAnother butterfly from the St. Louis Zoo's Insectarium. It's a little blurry, but still beautiful.

Are you looking at me?193 viewsAnother butterfuly from the Insectarium. The "eyes", of course, are just designs on the wings.

Insectarium181 viewsOne of the attractions at the zoo is the Insectarium, a building housing many insects, from the creepy to the beautiful. There is also a large dome filled with butterflies, which definitely qualify for the "beautiful" status. We snapped a few pictures of some of them.

Butterfly outside Jewel Box178 viewsMore butterflies, this time outside of the Jewel Box!

Jewel Box176 viewsNear the zoo is a conservatory called the Jewel Box. It had recently been restored before we visited, so it looked great inside. The design of the building, which was built in the 1930's, was somewhat unique for a greenhouse in that all the glass panes are perpendicular to the ground. This was to help prevent hail damage.

More Butterflies172 viewsNot sure if I was fascinated with butterflies on this trip, or just trying out or schmancy new digital camera's Macro capability a lot...

Penguin and Puffin Coast169 viewsMore penguins. It was COLD in there-- the brochure said they keep it 40 degrees, which is quite a shock when it's 80 degrees or so outside. and you're wearing shorts and T-shirts! Note that this picture almost looks like a painting, but it is indeed real.

Penguin and Puffin Coast165 viewsAnother unique exhibit was the Penguin and Puffin Coast, which was brand new for the season we were there. The penguins and puffins were so close to you you could have touched them (I might have tried if it wasn't for the zookeepers nearby).

Monkey See162 viewsThis guy seemed pretty photogenic as well. He's behind glass, which caused some reflections, but it's still a fun picture.
