Butterfly outside Jewel BoxMore butterflies, this time outside of the Jewel Box! Mar 17, 2006

Jewel BoxNear the zoo is a conservatory called the Jewel Box. It had recently been restored before we visited, so it looked great inside. The design of the building, which was built in the 1930's, was somewhat unique for a greenhouse in that all the glass panes are perpendicular to the ground. This was to help prevent hail damage.Mar 17, 2006

Penguin & Puffin CoastA very 'cool' exhibit, in all senses of the word.Mar 17, 2006

Penguin and Puffin CoastMore penguins. It was COLD in there-- the brochure said they keep it 40 degrees, which is quite a shock when it's 80 degrees or so outside. and you're wearing shorts and T-shirts! Note that this picture almost looks like a painting, but it is indeed real.Mar 17, 2006

Monkey SeeThis guy seemed pretty photogenic as well. He's behind glass, which caused some reflections, but it's still a fun picture.

Penguin and Puffin CoastAnother unique exhibit was the Penguin and Puffin Coast, which was brand new for the season we were there. The penguins and puffins were so close to you you could have touched them (I might have tried if it wasn't for the zookeepers nearby). Mar 17, 2006

Are you looking at me?Another butterfuly from the Insectarium. The "eyes", of course, are just designs on the wings.Mar 17, 2006

ButterflyAnother butterfly from the St. Louis Zoo's Insectarium. It's a little blurry, but still beautiful.Mar 17, 2006

InsectariumOne of the attractions at the zoo is the Insectarium, a building housing many insects, from the creepy to the beautiful. There is also a large dome filled with butterflies, which definitely qualify for the "beautiful" status. We snapped a few pictures of some of them.Mar 17, 2006
