Indy 500 MuseumInside the museum itself was car after car of winners of many of the 500 races. I'm not sure how they have collected all these -- some were replicas but most were the actual vehicles. In this picture, Tim sits in a replica which you were actually allowed to enter.Mar 17, 2006

Turn OneThis is "turn one" of the Indy 500 racetrack. If you follow the track back you'll see the scoring pylon.Mar 17, 2006

The "Pagoda"The bus tour took us around the racetrack itself, which was cool. The racetrack is called "The Brickyard" but I never knew why. Turns out the whole thing used to be paved with bricks. Most of them are still under the current asphalt surface. The picture to the left shows a new "pagoda" which was built for scorekeeping and the press. Evidently in years past (the track is almost 100 years old) there was an actual Japanese pagoda in the same location.

Driftwood at the Falls of the OhioThe flooding had caused lots of driftwood to pile up on the shores, making for an interesting photo opportunity.Mar 17, 2006

Big BatWe then stepped back across the street to try to get the entire bat in the picture. Not the easiest thing to do, as tall as that thing is.Mar 17, 2006

Louisville Slugger FactoryOur next stop was the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum. Here is where they make the world-famous wooden bats. We went on the tour, and got to take home a 'mini-bat' as well. Outside the factory is a huge bat, which we posed with here.Mar 17, 2006

The Rich get Richer...Churchill Downs was being remodeled when we were there. Of course, they had to tear out a 100-year old clubhouse so they could build a more 'posh' one for rich corporate suites. At least the twin spires remain!

Churchill DownsOur first stop was the Kentucky Derby Museum and Churchill Downs. Neither of us had the slightest clue when it came to horse racing or the Kentucky Derby, but the museum explained it all and was quite interesting. Mar 17, 2006

Route 66 MemorbeliaPartway across the bridge was an information area, with some nostalgic signs, an old gas pump, and an old car. In this picture, Cathy poses near some of these.Mar 17, 2006
