| John Deere Two Cylinder Expo XXVII - 2007 |
|
In June 2007 we attended the John Deere Two-Cylinder Expo XVII in Waterloo, Iowa. For a John Deere lover, the show was a real treat - it consisted of hundreds of beautifully-restored Deere's, both of the two-cylinder variety, and some of the early "New Power Generation" tractors as well. In addition, a number of the tractors had some real historical value, such as the first off the production line, or the first shipped, or the last produced. We all had a lot of fun looking at them.

William with Waterloo BoyWilliam poses excitedly with a beautifully-resored Waterloo Boy tractor. The Waterloo Boy was the first tractor sold by Deere, and is the reason that most Deere tractors are still produced in Waterloo, Iowa.

Model 70 Hi-CropMost of the tractors were strictly "Don't touch", but this particular one actually had a sign that said "Please climb on the tractor"! William was more than happy to oblige.

First Model 730 ShippedThe plaque reads: "This 730 gas row crop was the first 730 to be shipped from the John Deere Waterloo Works. It was part of a group of three tractors that were shipped to Madison, Wis., on July 31, 1958. The other two tractors were a 530 and a 630, making that grouping the first 30 series tractors to leave the factory. This 730 was found in a barn in northern Illinois in the spring of 2006. A 240-hour restoration was just completed by Jeff McManus. It is proudly owned by the Darick L. Franzen family.

840 ScraperTim was quite enamored with this huge model 840 scraper, mainly because he played with a toy version of it as a kid. It was definitely fun to see the real thing, beautifully restored.
