Chacchoben Mayan Ruins

Our first port day was at Costa Maya, Mexico.  This port is currently up-and-coming, and it would be interesting to visit it in 5-10 years when it really develops.

As sort of a last-minute thing right before leaving on the cruise, we scheduled a tour of the Chacchoben Mayen Ruins through a small company we found on the internet with good reviews, called The Native Choice.  This turned out to be an excellent decision, as our tour guide, Ivan Cohuo, was actually born on the site of the ruins and lived much of his life there.  We were part of a small tour group (about 15 people) led by Ivan, whereas the tours booked by the cruise were huge bus tours led by people who weren't even Mayan decent.  It was a very interesting experience for us.

Chasing WilliamWilliam kept running back to this temple, as we tried to listen to our guide talk about Mayan culture. So we took turns going and retrieving him.
