Photos from the collection of the Fischer Family
South Dakota 2008

We return to South Dakota (our last visit was in 2002).  Last time around, we took our "only child" Bailey, our Golden Retriever.  This time we had our two "real" kids, as well as Grandma.  So while it was kind of the same trip, it had an entirely different feel.  Poor Bailey had to fend for himself in "doggy day care" this time around.

Also, don't miss the Old Time Photos we had done while we were on this trip!

The Badlands National Park

IMG_1465.JPG

As with last time, the Badlands was our first major stop (besides the Corn Palace, see the other album for that). And just like last time, it was strikingly beautiful and we took lots of pictures.

William at Bridal Veil FallsBridal Veil Falls is right off of the main drag through Spearfish Canyon, so we woke the boys up so they'd at least see something... William is never too pleased to be woken up, but he fakes a smile here...

Mine TrainAt Homestake Park, you could see many mining objects, including these mine train cars, among 'ruins' of the mine structures.

Minuteman MissileAbout 10 or so miles from the control center in the previous picture was one of the missile silos. The silos themselves weren't manned. The ranger giving the talk was VERY interesting -- he was actually in the air force and for many years could have set these missles off himself.
