A couple years before we were there, a huge portion of the park was burned by a wildfire, and much of the rest of the park had been burned just a few years before that. This picture shows some of the landscape at the time.

Mesa Verde National ParkNear Durango is the Mesa Verde National Park. It was a very hot day when we were there, and there is almost no shade when touring the ruins. But it was very interesting.
